“We’re going to continue our scanning so we will see what we can do to figure out what we can find out beneath it, or just by the end of this corridor,” said Mostafa Waziri, head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities.

The latest doorway reached out into the Great Pyramid of Khufu with neither dust clouds nor hammer strokes. It came as a problem of measurement-that-could be done in layers first of those particles of space, then of those of instruments forced to stone, and lastly of a camera thinner than a pencil point, which could squeeze through a joint that was already there. What has been left is a void confirmed on the north face of the monument, a corridor sealed over the main entrance, and in which so many visitors suppose that only masonry has been left solid.
It is approximately 9 meters in length and approximately 7 meters high and is located behind the special inverted-V masonry of the north face of the pyramid which is commonly referred to as the Chevron. The dimensions of the refined corridor have been documented to be 2.02 ± 0.06 m across and 2.18 ± 0.17 m tall, as being in a space that was apparently long enough to be deliberate and not accidental. It was discovered when muography was discovered, which reads the pyramid, by following muons, the by-products of cosmic rays, which traverse the rock and are concentrated where the stone is most dense. The method does not provide a photograph it gives a density map that indicates where something inside is surprisingly hollow. That empty place still had to be filled out.
The verification was achieved by means of a series of non-destructive checks, which reduced the anomaly to geometry. Ultrasonic testing and ground penetrating radar was used to find the safest and smallest hole, and a 6 millimeter endoscope was made to go through a tiny space between blocks. Clear footage of the camera showed an empty hall with a harshly hewn stone on the walls and a high vaulted ceiling an interior view, which in effect repeats the larger spaces of the pyramid, yet which looked incomplete, as though the workmen stopped there after the work was done.
The place of the corridor cannot be separated with the Chevron per se, a visible arrangement of an “entrance vault” to control the loading of a hole punched into a huge body of limestone. In 2025, a survey using electrical resistivity tomography in this zone with electrodes attached to the vertical Chevron walls identified the voids that were filled by air since it has a much higher resistivity than limestone. The paper explained how the complicated surface topography of the Chevron makes it difficult to image and that three-dimensional modeling is required to ensure that the surface topography does not pose as internal structure. Despite those limits, the corridor is manifested as a discrete, high-resistivity feature starting approximately one meter behind the Chevron surface, independent lining and supplementing muon maps and endoscopic video.
The engineers and archeologists have termed the corridor to be possibly structural, and a buffer capable of redistributing the forces over the passage. The concept is consistent with other load-management elements in the rest of the pyramid, such as the relieving chambers that were stacked over the King Chamber. The corridor also, however, finds its end in a more general pattern: the interior of the Great Pyramid still speaks of significant volumes, as the north-face corridor leads to a larger hole above the Grand Gallery, each of which is a hint that, in the plan of the monument, only partially the map has been sketched.
Khufu constructed his pyramid around 2600 BC and with a length of 146 meters, this pyramid continues to be an engineering document written in stone, and is now read not with a chisel, but with a muon, radar, resistivity and miniature cameras. The covered passageway above the entrance does not end the conversation on the design of the pyramid; it makes the questions more pointed, and it demonstrates that even now, with the least invasive instruments, it is possible to discover areas that have not been visible in thousands of years.
