If you see a head unit reflecting a bunch of ceiling lights, that’s a giveaway it’s CGI.”

UBTECH’s rebuttal was quick and precisely technological. “100 percent real footage shot on-site” was claimed in a follow-up video released by the Shenzhen-based company, which was recorded in one take with a first-person perspective drone camera, with real, ambient sound. This, asserted their chief brand officer, Tan Min, “stem from a lack of understanding of China’s manufacturing capabilities and the collaborative, systemic strength of our supply chains.” And this concern is, in fact, valid: a vertically integrated Chinese manufacturing system would be able to deliver high volume production runs of such robotics, sensors, actuators, and precision machines within timelines that would not be manageable in the West.
However, the Walker S2 itself is much more than a showpiece. Unveiled in July, this is the first humanoid robot in the world that boasts self-swappable batteries, which is essential for its use in a continuous, 24-hour industrial task. It incorporates a reasoning framework designed for multiple modalities, based on DeepSeek R1, so that the robot can integrate visual, audio, as well as proprioceptive inputs.
