Accessible via Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass, the Clear option preserves the glassy, layered aesthetic, while Tinted increases opacity to reduce visual noise and improve legibility in elements like Notification Centre and navigation bars. This adjustment doesn’t disable the design language; it refines it, addressing feedback from users who found the original implementation aesthetically pleasing but functionally challenging.

Liquid Glass represents Apple’s most significant UI shift since the flat design introduced in 2013, and the new control reflects a broader trend in Apple’s interface evolution: balancing visual sophistication with accessibility. The company has also extended customisation to the Home Screen, allowing Clear or Tinted icon styles, and provided alternative adjustments through Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce Transparency. These refinements show Apple’s responsiveness to user experience concerns while maintaining the underlying design philosophy.
On iPadOS 26.1, productivity gains take centre stage with the reintroduction of Slide Over, a multitasking staple first introduced in iOS 9. Integrated into the new windowing system, Slide Over lets users summon a single app over existing windows, move it off-screen, and bring it back instantly. The updated version adds vertical resizing previously limited to horizontal, while sacrificing the ability to stack multiple apps. Apple Music gains a swipe gesture for track changes and extends AutoMix transitions to AirPlay 2-compatible speakers, bringing DJ-style crossfades to more playback scenarios.
