Remained the high-speed, high-altitude lord of the skies. The latest Air Force addition, the F-15EX, has been pushed hard. The plane’s design is capable of delivering the heavy load, even the possibility of the hypersonic missile, thereby earning the plane the nickname the versatile and powerful combatant fighter of the current generation’s combat skies.

This latest variant among the all-time bests among the F-15s, the F-15QA, fills the pressing need alongside the aged F-15C/D’s. Emphasizing immensely on speed, high height, excellent reach, and heavy payload went up by 29,500 pounds, the F-15EX is an air-to-air and ground-to-air behemoth.
The intimidating firepower on the powerful fighter’s arsenal is up to 12 AIM-9 Sidewinders or AIM-120 AMRAAMs, or up to 24 air-to-ground ordnances combined, bolstered by one internally carried M61A1 20 mm six-barrel cannon. The fighter jet’s claims to fame are the largest stand-off air-to-air combat combat range fight among all Air Force fighters, latest APG-82 AESA radar, Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS), and EPAWSS self-defensive package.
The F-15EX’s first-ever digital fly-by-woice flight controls and glass cockpit with touchscreen display are the benchmarks of the latest technological advances. The Open Mission System (OMS) software architecture provides an impetus for rapid upgrades and capability upgrades, so the jet will always be on the verge of the latest combat capability.
On 13 July 2020, the USAF awarded Boeing the first $1.2 billion contract for the first eight F-15EX fighters, the biggest bet on fifth-generation fighter aviation’s future. Initial delivery occurred on 11 March 2021, at Eglin AFB. The first test flight from Nellis was conducted by the F-15EX in October 2021, while the first-ever missile firing was done alive on the 25th of January, 2022. The jet fired off two AIM-120s over the Eglin range, vindicating the readiness of the plane to reach the front lines.
Since the Air Force will end up with only 104 F-15EX fighters rather than the originally envisioned 144, one must question what policy basis there is for this policy.
Also, the F-15EX has been gaining attention abroad, as well, with the Israelis set to tender an official order for 25 of the fighters, testifying to their global fame.
Despite the humongous price of approximately $93.5 million per plane, the F-15EX’s lease on the U.S. air dominance is indelible. The aircraft’s superiority over the measure of range, weapons carrying ability, as well as existing avionics, makes the F-15EX an indispensable piece of the air defense puzzle for America.
