The groundwork for this lead is Meta’s deepening relationship with EssilorLuxottica, the eyewear monolith that owns Ray-Ban and Oakley. This partnership provides something rivals can’t: a worldwide retail presence and brand reputation that places cutting-edge hardware in the hands of tens of millions of consumers. By leveraging Oakley’s sports demographic and Ray-Ban’s lifestyle status, Meta has opened up beyond early adopters. The figures highlight the influence more than 3.5 million units of prior Ray-Ban Meta eyeglasses delivered as of mid-2025, establishing a gigantic installed base already familiar with wearable cameras, microphones, and AI integration.
The Ray-Ban Display glasses are Meta’s first consumer AR product featuring in-lens display, and the engineering decisions reveal a great deal. Rather than refractive waveguides that result in distracting “eye glow” visible to observers, Meta uses geometric waveguides with minimized forward light leakage, yielding a more realistic look.
